Educational Contest – This is Our King Erekle…

The author of the project - educational contest – This is Our King Erekle… is Caucasus International University which aims to:

• Introduce students better to the life and work of Erekle II;
• Develop research, high thinking, communication and collaboration skills in a competitive environment;
• Establish contacts between schools and higher education institutions;
• Get acquainted with the activities of the university and become involved in future educational processes.

The contest is dedicated to King Erekle’s 300^th birthday Anniversary.

11th and 12th grade students from all public and private schools throughout Georgia can participate in the project.

The educational contest consists of 3 sections (the contestant must choose only one section):

• Journalism;
• Tourism;
• Essay writing.

Journalism Section

The aim of the contestant in the journalism section is to prepare a story (video recording) on King Erekle’s life and work, the timing of which is defined and must not exceed 3 minutes;

A group work is allowed (no more than 3 pupils).

Stages:

• Registration and submission of a video recording – till February 23;
• Evaluation and selection of video recording by the committee – till March 4;
• Presentation of the video recordings selected for the II stage – March 6, at 10:00 (via online platform Zoom);
• Revealing/awarding the winners – March 6, at 13:00.

The video presented by the contestant, due to the theme of the contest, should refer to interesting stories about King Erekle: battles, diplomatic issues, the royal family, the history of the descendants, etc.

Video recording can be made by any technical means (video submitted by the contestant is evaluated on a 10-point scale).

Evaluation criteria:

Compliance with the terms and conditions of the contest, in particular:

• How thoroughly the issue has been researched/discussed;
• How comprehensible, interesting, appealing the work is to a listener or a reader – 3 points;
• Significance of the topic- 3 points;
• Creative vision: how original, creative, valuable is the work from a creative point of view – 4 points.

Tourism Section

(Virtual Excursion)

The aim of the contestant in the Tourism section is to prepare a virtual excursion about the place selected by him/her, the history of which is connected with King Erekle. The contestant must select a route and use reasoning to convince the committee of the superiority of his or her choice, to present his or her vision for the prospect of further development of that particular place.

Stages:

• Registration and submission of a video recording – till February 23;
• Evaluation and selection of video recording by the committee – till March 4;
• Presentation of the video recordings selected for the II stage – March 6, at 14:00 (via online platform Zoom);
• Revealing/awarding the winners – March 6, at 17:00.

Evaluation criteria:

A video submitted by the contestant is evaluated on a 10-point scale:

• Presentation of the itinerary 8-10 minutes (Attention will be paid to the depth of the obtained material, authenticity: - Short historical-geographical annotation, cultural and natural sights, folklore, customs) – 3 points;
• Text accompanying the presentation (writing, speaking and presentation skills): each 1 point, in total 3 points;
• Visual side of the presentation (with video attachment) - 2 points, without video attachment – 1 point;
• Use of information and communication technologies (without the use of animations and special effects) – 1 point, with animations and special effects – 2 points.

Essay Writing Section

Subject (a contestant chooses one of the topics):

1. Nikoloz Baratashvili’s “The Fate of Kartli” and Erekle II’s life and work;

(The contestant, based on the theme, evaluates N. Baratashvili’s work in a historical context)

2. Erekle II – Great military commander;

(Success stories of King Erekle as a military commander)

3. Erekle II and European Education;

Contribution of the state to the introduction of European education in Georgia)

Stages:

• Registration and submission of an essay – till February 23;
• Evaluation and selection of essays by the committee – till March 4;
• Presentation of the essays selected for the II stage – March 7, at 11:00 (via online platform Zoom);
• Revealing/awarding the winners – March 7, at 14:00.

Evaluation criteria:

A work submitted by the contestant is evaluated on a 10-point scale:

• Reasoning and Logical Thinking – 2 points;
• Profound knowledge of the life and work of King Erekle – 2 points;
• Roof, parallels and arguments – 2 points;
• Essay composition and adequacy – 2 points;
• Essay language and style – 2 points.
