CIU basketball team won the first match of Universiade Cup held by University Sports Federation on 18 May and they opened the basketball season with this victory.
CIU basketball players held the above mentioned match with Guram Tavartkiladze Teaching University. The main part of CIU team consists of the university students (Beka Kartsivadze, Valerian Bichashvili, Lasha Mamporia, Beka Beridze, Luka Gatserelia, Bakar Gabisiani, Beka Shvelidze, Alexandre Bakradze and Giorgi Sukhashvili). The team only adds one invited basketball player Kakha Giorgadze at Universiada Cup who also defends honour of CIU team.
The final score of the first game was 69:64 in favour of CIU. The team will have the nearest meeting with Georgian Technical University team, which is the winner of the last year, on 24 May.
