Caucasus International University hosted a ceremony for awarding Honorary Title of Emeritus to Professor Mindia Ugrekhelidze for his special accomplishments and professional recognition in academic field on May 19.
Rector of Caucasus International University, Kakhaber Kordzaia awarded him at the ceremony.
Mr. Mindia Ugrekhelidze’s 80th birthday anniversary was celebrated on the same day. The speakers congratulated him, talked about Mindia Ugrekhelidze’s many years of productive work and highlighted his special achievements in the field of law. Protopresbyter Giorgi Zviadadze, Rector of Tbilisi Theological Academy and Seminary, introduced a congratulatory letter to Mindia Ugrekhelidze from the Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II. The speeches were also delivered by Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, Caucasus International University Chancellor, Kakhaber Kordzaia, the University Rector, George Khatidze, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Beka Dzamashvili,
Deputy Minister of Justice, Bakur Gulua, former Minister of Agriculture, Lawyer Apolon Gadelia, Associate Professors –Beka Kantaria and Petre Mamradze.
The event was moderated by Ms. Sesili Gogiberidze, Head of Scientific Research Department at Caucasus International University.
The moot court room of Caucasus International University Faculty of Law was named after Academician Mindia Ugrekhelidze on the same day.
Mindia Ugrekhelidze has been the Chair of the Supreme Court of Georgia at various times, the first Georgian judge in the European Court of Human Rights, a member of the World Association of Lawyers and the International Criminal Court. He has been an expert of the Tbilisi Political School operating in the Council of Europe since 2009, and this year he was elected a full member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences. He holds the position of Supervisor of the Doctoral Program in Law at Caucasus International University and is the author of numerous scientific papers and monographs.
The event, held at Caucasus International University, was attended by the representatives of the university management, government and the private sector, as well as academic and scientific community.
