Gebhard Reul, Head of DAAD Tbilisi Information Center held an information meeting on DAAD Foundation activities and programs at Caucasus International University on October 22, 2019.
Gebhard Reul reviewed the history of the DAAD foundation and the main directions of its activities during the meeting. It is worth mentioning that the first person received a scholarship from the foundation in 1988. A lot of Georgian students and researchers have been given the opportunity to obtain higher education in Germany and conduct researches there since then.
DAAD scholarship programs, which envisage engaging undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral students, academic staff and young researchers in study-research activities in Germany were emphasized during the meeting.
DAAD foundation was founded in 1925 in Heidelberg by the initiative of students. Nowadays, it is one of the most important foundations which provides the exchange of students and scientists on the international level.
DAAD has funded nearly two million people in Germany and abroad since its establishment. Today it is a unity of German universities and student unions. However, it must be admitted that DAAD activities are not limited to scholarships only: DAAD facilitates internationalization of higher education institutions, assists developing countries with the creation of competitive higher education institutions, and simultaneously consulting experts in education, science and development policy.
An information meeting was attended by the university authorities, the representatives of the administration, academic personnel, and students.
