On March 6-13, graduates of the project “Wine Tourism”, implemented by Caucasus International University and the Georgian Association of Wine Tourism, paid a study visit to Spain.
Within the framework of the visit, the graduates were hosted by CIU partner organizations: Madrid Institute for Rural, Agricultural and Food Research and Development (IMIDRA) and its Department of Organic Viticulture. During the meeting, they discussed the consistent processes of wine making. In addition, they visited the laboratories that serve the requirements of the region and the test areas, where, along with many Spanish grape varieties, they got acquainted with different varieties of the world that thrive in Spain, including Saperavi.
Rio Negro welcomed the students in the wine cellar, where there was held wine tasting specially for young people after introducing them the wine cellar and its surroundings.
Within the framework of the visit, the winemakers of the region offered tastings of their wines. Further, the graduates received tips on how to offer their own wine cellar to tourist, together with the cultural or historical package of the area.
The meeting was held with Miguel Cambas, a representative of the University of Alcala, who spoke to students about wine tourism.
It should be noted that at the end of the visit, the enotourism graduates were invited by the Ambassador of Georgia to Spain, Ilia Giorgadze. It was noted at the meeting that for the young people it was a chance to master the basic nuances of wine tourism and to practically deepen the knowledge gained in Spain, a leading country of wine tourism.
At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador and at the same time, the Honorary President of the Georgian Wine Tourism Association, Ilia Giorgadze awarded the graduates relevant certificates.
