Mr. Ahmad Ali Mehri Ardestani, Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Georgia visited Caucasus International University on January 17. He met Mr. Kakhaber Kordzaia, CIU Rector.
The workshop was also attended by Maia Kapanadze, Head of the Scientific-Analytical Center for Georgian and Iranian Relations at the University, and Sophio Gabunia, Assistant to Attaché.
Within the framework of the visit, the sides discussed the close and business relations between Caucasus International University, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Embassy Cultural Department. Mr. Ahmad Ali Mehri Ardestani placed special emphasis on the importance of the international conferences dedicated to the relations between Georgia and Iran, which have been held for years with the support of the Embassy and its Cultural Department. The guest highlighted the significance of the Iranian studies section of the annual international scientific conference for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students at the University, bringing Georgian and Iranian students closer together. They also talked about future joint projects, which will significantly contribute to the rapprochement of Georgian and Iranian scientific circles.
At the meeting, CIU Rector focused on the issue of recognition of Georgian university diplomas by the Islamic Republic of Iran and noted that this process was delayed by Iran. He asked the attaché to take an interest in the issue, take appropriate steps and actively involve Caucasus International University in the process, to which he received a relevant promise from the attaché. The Attaché also added that the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Georgia, Akbar Qasemi Ali Abadi, is already working intensively on the issue. The guest noted that he has just arrived in Georgia and the first rector he met was Kakhaber Kordzaia. He thanked him and the university for that.
In the end, the parties moved to CIU Cabinet of Iran, where many interesting activities have been organized by the University in the field of Iranian Studies and with the support of the Embassy.
