A meeting was held at Caucasus International University within the framework of International Women’s Rights Defense Week. The event was initiated by Ms. Tamar Taliashvili, chairperson of Education and Culture Commission of Tbilisi City Municipal Assembly and majoritarian of Nadzaladevi district (Temka).
Ms.Tamar Taliashvili, Sopho Japaridze, Assistant to Prime-Minister in Human Rights and Gender Equality Issues, Sopho Kiladze, Majoritarian MP of Nadzaladevi district, Marika Darchia, Deputy Chair of Tbilisi Municipal Assembly, Ninia Sadghobelashvili, a poet, Nino Lapiashvili, film producer, Nino Odzelashvili, world champion in Sambo and other invited guests presented in front of the attending audience of the event.
The speakers placed emphasis on various social roles of women: woman as a mother, woman as a spouse, colleague, professional, woman as a defender of three main treasures – language, homeland and religion. They encouraged women to strengthen and support each other.
The event focused on women's economic strengthening, equality and introduction of obligatory quotas in the representative body.
The world is on the side of women! A woman is the beginning of life, and the strong woman naturally implies to having a strong man by the side and vice versa - it was one of the main messages that the speakers communicated.
Ms. Nino Chalaganidze, Head of Multimedia Centre presented on behalf of CIU. She greeted the attending audience and introduced interesting new ideas. As stated by her, it is possible to elaborate a special competition program focusing on women issues where young people will participate and prepare different types of work on the topic of women. Ms. Nino Chalaganidze discussed the experience of Multimedia Centre in this direction and distinguished a student film Suffragists prepared on the base of CIU. We would like to remind you that teh above mentioned meeting was organzied within the framework of 16-day campaign which has been celebrated throughout the world since 1991 and International Human Rights Defense Day finishes on December 10.
