Caucasus International University became engaged in International Scientific Conference and School – Innovative Technologies in Clinical Immunology: From Immuno-Diagnostics towards Personalized Targeted Immunotherapy and Immuno-Rehabilitation as one of the partner organizations. The event was held on June 15-19, 2018.
The project was funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation and its author and coordinator was Nunu Mitskevich, CIU Consultant in Research Development and Associate Professor of the Department of Immunology of TSU.
The program of the project – Innovative Technologies in Clinical Immunology: From Immuno-Diagnostics towards Personalized Targeted Immunotherapy and Immuno-Rehabilitation covered five days. Several symposia, satellite sessions, conferences, scientific debates and outdoor tour were held.
Representatives of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Georgian Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology, National Center for Disease, Caucasus International University and Tbilisi State Medical University greeted the audience at the opening ceremony on June 15.
Invited lecturers and presenters of the conference and school were from leading American and European universities and research institutions: The University of Virginia (USA), University of Pittsburgh (USA), The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research (USA), University of Granada (Spain), University of Vienna (Austria), University of Westminster (Great Britain) and others.
80 students of Medical School from seven higher education institutions of Georgia had a theoretical course on significant issues of fundamental immunology – Onco- Immunology, Onco-Hematology, Allergology and Dermatology within the framework of a scientific school.
The symposium Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia was opened at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel on June 17. CIU academic personnel made presentations on Onco-Hematology at the symposium and they worked out plans for future collaboration with their foreign colleagues.
Project participants visited National Center for Disease Control and Public Health/The Richard Lugar Public Health Research Center on June 17. Amiran Gamkrelidze, General Manager of National Centre for Disease Control hosted them.
Paata Imnadze, Scientific Director showed the guests Lugar Center Laboratory and material-technical base.
Satellite session was also held by the Association of Immunization and Vaccinology (AIVA) within the framework of the school-conference. The presentations made by the members of the Association mainly referred to achievements of vaccinology and innovations.
Dermatology-Venerology and Aesthetic Medicine Section was organized by Georgian Association of Photodermatology and Skin Cancer within the framework of the Tenth National Congress of Georgian Allergology and Clinical Immunology at Radisson Blu Iveria Hotel on June 18, 2018. Lali Mekokishvili, Association President, CIU Dean of the Faculty of Medicine summarized the activities implemented within the framework of the national congresses since 2012.
At the Dermatology-Venerology and Aesthetic Medicine section, the presenters placed emphasis on various issues such as atopic dermatitis and skin microorganisms, genital dermatitis and acne, psoriasis, and skin pigmentation treatment.
The concluding sessions of the project, scientific debates held with the participation of students and final testing was organized at Caucasus International University. Two scientific debates were held on June 19 and CIU students of the faculty of Medicine together with other university students participated in it.
Immune System VS Cancer, Immunotherapy VS Chemotherapy - project participant students have formed 4 groups and they tried to defend their position in reference to the above mentioned issues by providing specific arguments, theoretical or practical examples.
At the final stage of the project, 80 students involved in the project from seven higher education institutions throughout Georgia, were awarded special certificates.
