Open Seminar - Planning and Implementing Peacekeeping Operations Under the Conditions of Changing International Security Canadian Professor, Frederic Labarre conducted an open seminar on the topic - Planning and Implementing Peacekeeping Operations Under the Conditions of Changing International Security for CIU graduate students of International Relations and International Security and doctoral students of Political Sciences.
The professor reviewed the history of the issue and the challenges of modernity within the framework of the seminar and discussed peacekeeping operations implemented by UN. In addition, he placed emphasis on such significant facts as: the events of 1948 when the UN Security Council established the first mission to support peace between Israel and the Arab countries; Suez crisis (1956); period of decolonization (1960-1965); Cold War period (till 1991); Post-Cold War period (till 1992).
The second part of the meeting was held in the form of question-responses. Students’ questions referred to significant international political processes, engagement of different countries in peacekeeping operations, its causes and results.
