Extraordinary CIU Student Self-Governance elections were held on June 8, 2018. As a result of the elections, 8 self-governing members have been elected from each faculty through proportional and majoritarian election system. According to the final results published by the election commission, the initiative group “Caucasian” won the elections, which will be represented by 23 members in the new self-government body. The second place was taken by the initiative group – CIU TEAM with 5 elected members, four mandates were distributed among independent candidates. About 800 CIU students have participated in the elections.
Salome Surameli, a student of CIU Faculty of Business, was elected as President of Student Self-Government at the first meeting held on June 11, 2018. As stated by her, the aim of the new self-government is to create active, interesting, informative and entertaining environment for students which will be oriented on implementing free ideas and creative projects. The organization of educational conferences, seminars, sports and cultural events in university as well as outside it, are planned in the near future. Student Self-Governance will also be active in terms of supporting social projects.
The following vice-presidents were also named at the first meeting of the Student Self-Governance: First Vice-President Irakli Bandzava (Faculty of Law), second Vice-President Giorgi Gorozia (Faculty of Medicine), Vice-Presidents Bakur Khubulava (Faculty of Social Sciences) and Dimitri Khubulava (Faculty of Business).
