Information Meeting-Conference was held at National Center for Disease Control and Public Health for the dermatologists, surgeons, oncologists and CIU Faculty of Medicine students participating within the framework of Euromelanoma Campaign. The event was organized by Lali Mekokishvili, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Caucasus International University and Maia Datuashvili, CIU Affiliated Professor and supported by the National Center for Disease Control.
Lali Mekokishvili, a national representative of Euromelanoma provided information about the main aims of the campaign and statistics of previews years. Ms. Maya Datuashvili placed emphasis on the specificity of the current campaign and organizational details. Nana Mebonia, a representative of the Centre discussed statistics of skin cancer and melanoma for the last 3 years in Georgia.
Euromelanoma campaign was first held in 1999 in Belgium and later it spread over 36 countries. By the initiative of Georgian Association of Photodermatology and Skin Cancer, our country has become a member of Euromelanoma since 2012. Skin cancer screening is held all over the country for the seventh times this year and the event is organized by the Association.
Euromelanoma is Pan-European campaign which aims at facilitating prevention and early detection of skin cancer and melanoma as well as informing masses.
The slogan of the campaign this year is: Skin Cancer is a Problem for Georgia!
Parents protect your children from sun radiation!
The goal of the message is make parents pay more attention to sun protection measures and ways, as sunburn in children can significantly increase the risk for developing melanoma and skin cancer during adulthood.
