By the initiative of CIU Faculty of Law students (Eter Chachua, Victoria Butskhrikidze, Nina Inasaridze, Mariam Gerlani, Kristine Khujadze, Tereza Asatiani) and the support of Vladimer Macharashvili, Dean of the Faculty of Law, 22 students divided into 4 groups will conduct two moot courts in criminal law till the end of the semester.
The courts will be held on the examples of Georgian and American cases within the framework of students’ initiative and the jury will reach a verdict.
Within the frame of the initiative, Tinatin Makharadze, Prosecutor of the Department to Investigate Offenses Committed in the Course of Legal Proceedings of Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and lawyer Irakli Gvenetadze met students.
They talked about direct, indirect and cross-examination with the attending students and shared their experience.
The guests also discussed the institution of jury and noted that they become engaged in especially serious crimes; therefore, their effective work is crucial.
The meeting was held in the form of question-responses and even Vladimer Macharashvili, Dean of the Faculty gave a recommendation.
As stated by the initiators, the first moot court in criminal law will be held next week.
