CIU students of Journalism program at the Faculty of Social Sciences met with Vakhtang Komakhidze, an experienced journalist-investigator within the framework of the academic discipline Journalistic Investigation.
The lecture was opened by Gigla Gobechia, course supervisor and he familiarized students with the invited guest’s main aspects of professional activities.
At the beginning of the meeting, Vakhtang Komakhidze discussed about students the main purpose of the Soviet media, the information deficit and the legitimate right of human in this reality - to get the credible and reliable information.
The reporter named one of the milestones for the media, in particular, the third chapter of the General Administrative Code and the possibility of access to public information that has created a new platform of journalistic activity in Georgia.
As stated by Vakhtang Komakhidze, journalistic investigation is not genre, it is more intensive, full and comprehensive information, the author of which is a specialized journalist, largely with specific field knowledge.
The speaker placed emphasis on his practical experience and particular cases. In addition, he discussed professional challenges, relation with the source and answered students’ questions in the concluding part of the meeting.
We would like to remind you that Vakhtang Komakhidze is in immigration for eight years and is a Georgian journalist recognized by the Swiss government as a political persecutor.
