The presentation of the film “Gift to Georgia” shot by Smirnov Museum and museum website was held at the conference hall of Caucasus International University. The meeting was opened by museum director and CIU invited lecturer Baya Amashukeli. She briefly introduced to the attending audience the history which they would see in the film in more detail.
The private and public life of a family with Georgian, French, Armenian and Italian roots, in particular the life of Alexandra Smirnova-Rosset is portrayed is the documentary film about the museum directed by Tamar Makharadze.
The most of the museum exhibits belong to Pushkin epoch. This is the furniture and other things of a famous literary salon in Petersburg. The hostess of this salon, Alexandra Smirnova-Rosset has left her trace in the 19th century culture, her memoires were published four times in the 20th century. The last 1989 edition was included in the academic series “Literary Monuments”. This is a 600-page work where the reader will be able to meet a lot of famous faces from Alexandra Smirnova-Rosset’s contemporaries.
After the film, the presentation of the museum website (http://smirnovshousemuseum.ge/) will be held. The website shows the detailed history of Smirnovs’ family. As stated by Baya Amashukeli In the nearest future, it is planned to organize a visit and thematic lecture of students and their professor- Doctor of Sciences in History, Ketevan Shoshiashvili within the framework of the university subject.
