Chaplain and supporter of the Polish Movement Solidarity, Father Jerzy Popieluszko, who strongly opposed the regime, was killed by the members of Security Service of People’s Republic of Poland on 19 October, 1984.
The round table held at CIU Centre for Polish Language and Culture named after Irine Skhirtladze was dedicated to the day of murder of Father Jerzy Popieluszko. The event - "Significance of Protest Culture" – was attended by current journalists Piotr Hlebowicz and Jadwiga Hmelinski as honorary guests.
We would like to remind you that after Father Jerzy Popieluszko’s death more than 150 books were dedicated to his life and work. The vast majority of them has been translated into more than 50 languages. A biographic film “Popieluszko, freedom is in us” was released in 2010.
