Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II met the finalists of Caucasus International University school-educational project “We Return to Mountains”, the University Rector and the representatives of the administration at the Patriarchy of Georgia.
CIU Rector discussed the current project in his greeting speech and placed emphasis on the expedition in Pshavi organized by the university this summer.
The project finalists briefly introduced their projects to Patriarch, Bishops, clergy and representatives of CIU administration, discussed the significance of the problem and ways for its solution.
Unregulated infrastructure, emptied villages, non-existence of medical points, ruined agricultural fields – students opposed these problems with well organized tourist itineraries, implementation of investments and the project which encourages the local youth. As stated by the students, it is essential to have comprehensive knowledge of a certain region in order to renew the existing correctly on the basis of the traditions.
CIU Chancellor, Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze thanked the Patriarch towards the end of the meeting and presented a series of the documentary films - “Life of Qartli together with Mariam Lortkipanidze” prepared by University Multimedia Centre. He stated that the university will always support and encourage the returning of children to the mountains.
His Holiness shoed great interest towards the project, encouraged them to study and expressed his hope that they will return to their villages and regions.
The Patriarch presented an icon to Vakhtang Tsivtsiavdze and took a photo together with the guests.
