Presentation of the research outcomes of the scientific project Impact of Creeping Occupation on Population Flow
The Georgian-Ossetian conflict which has begun since the 1990s of the 20th century has led to complicated political and social processes in Georgia. On the one hand, Tskhinvali region is occupied by Russia (Georgian population living there have been in exile for more than two decades), and on the other hand, the condition of people living in the so-called borderline villages are extremely harsh. 2008 Russian-Georgian war has fully demonstrated the complication of this conflict. Conflicting processes were spread on the vast area of Shida Kartli, which gradually turned into a creeping occupation.
The aim of the event is to introduce to the audience the outcomes of the research - Comparative Studies of Creeping Occupation and Its Impact of Population Flow in Borderline Villages conducted within the framework of CIU small scientific grant.
The research was carried out through anonymous questionnaires distributed in seven villages affected by the creeping occupation. The questionnaires were designed specifically for this survey, which determined the effects of creeping occupation and their impact on population growth in so-called borderline villages.
Photo-video material was collected, a clip was filmed that shows, on the one hand, the problems of the affected villages, and on the other hand, the causes of the flow, as well as the work process that we will share with the public.
The event organizers take the responsibility to preserve the property kept in the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia exhibition hall which was given free of charge.
