CIU Successful Student Was Awarded Kosta Khetagurov Scholarship

Ms. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, State Minister of Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia, together with Ms. Irine Abuladze, Deputy Minister of Education, Sciences, Culture and Sports of Georgia awarded Robizon Iluridze, Caucasus International University student of the Faculty of Medicine Kosta Khetagurov Scholarship on February 21, 2019. Giorgi Tsikolia, a student of Georgian Technical University was also awarded. He received Dimitri Gulia Scholarship. The students are from the occupied Tskhinvali region and Abkhazia. The students will receive 300 GEL monthly scholarship throughout one academic year.

The scholarship was introduced for the first time this year by the initiated of the State Minister and with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports. The scholarship is for students from occupied territories, who demonstrated the best results and received high scores at the Unified National Exams despite many obstacles.

We want to highlight that the preservation of Abkhazian and Ossetian culture is crucial for us and this step serves as proof. In addition, general education is essential and especially the assistance of the youth who live in occupied territories. This is the most appropriate response to a violent policy which has been implemented for years. We have a new peaceful initiative – A step forward to the better future, and availability of quality education plays a key role in this. This will encourage the youth to study better. We have to confront occupation with the help of similar deliberate steps, more education, and more development and surely we will overcome it – was stated by Ms. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili.

We would like to remind you that Dimitri Gulia was an Abkhazian writer, one of the founders of Abkhazian Literature, poet and a deputy of the USSR Supreme Council. As for Kosta Khetagurov, he was a notable public benefactor, a founder of Ossetian literature, a poet, educator and a painter.

The event held at the administration of Georgian Government was attended by Mr. Kakhaber Kordzaia, Caucasus International University Rector and the university students.
