The conference – OSCE Region – Role of Universities in Formation of Peace and Security System

The conference on the topic – OSCE Region – Role of Universities in Formation of Peace and Security System was held at Caucasus International University on February 6, 2019.

The conference was held in partnership with Caucasus International University Laboratory of Geopolitical Modeling, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly, OSCE Youth Network 2250, international movement Universities for Peace/International Center for University Diplomacy and Tbilisi University of International Relations. It is worth mentioning that the conference was dedicated to the establishment of Olof Palme’s Prize. It was initiated on February 6, 1987 and it is considered as the greatest achievement in the field of human rights. The conference was opened by Mr. Vakhtang Maisaia, supervisor of CIU Postgraduate Educational Program in International Relations and International Security. Mr. Kakhaber Kordzaia, CIU Rector, Mr. Ulrik Tideström, Ambassador of Sweden to Georgia, Mr. Rudolf Michalka, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus, Arzu Abdullayeva, a winner of Olof Palme prize, a chairperson of Azerbaijani Committee of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly and Mr. Badri Nachkebia, head of the Olof Palme Research Center for Terrorism and Political Violence addressed the audience.

The second part of the conference offered discussions and interactive format. It is noteworthy that an exhibition was also opened on the base of the university on February 6. More than 30 archive photos depicting the relation between CIU and OSCE were exhibited. Mr. Lasha Kantelashvili, a graduate of Caucasus International University Undergraduate Program in International Relation, Faculty of Social Sciences and OSCE Bishkek Academy Master’s Program delivered a concluding speech at the conference.
