February 11 – International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On 22 December 2015, the UN General Assembly made a resolution to establish an annual International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

On this day the UN encourages world states, organizations and people to foster equal access of women to science and education. The UN hopes that difference between sexes in science will be eliminated and it will become available for women.

Caucasus International University initiated the establishment of Prize Tamar in this direction. It reveals successful scientists working at the university, post-doctoral and doctoral students as the result of the contest evaluating their scientific and research activities. By the decision of the organizing committee, the name of the scientific prize “Tamar” is named after Georgian King Tamar, the implementer of the progressive and humane policy in the Caucasus, and the patron of intellectuals and artists.

It is noteworthy that 6 scientists of Caucasus International University, out of which five are women, have been awarded prizes.

Caucasus International University introduced research grant funding system, which aims to promote creation of new knowledge, theories and models, integration of the research results in academic process, involvement of young researchers in research process, attraction of the youth, internationalization, implementation of joint researches by local and foreign universities and development of high-quality scientific research. Research results will contribute to scientific, social, economic, cultural, etc. development in long-term both locally and internationally.

It should be noted that 12 research projects are funded at this stage and out of them 11 projects have women supervisors.
